What car do you choose and why?
My choice:
Find a Lamborghini Jalpa with a blown motor, LS7 it. The cost of the engine and rarity exceeds the value of the running car, and isn’t really legendary or anything. But a nice bit of American boot would give it life in a beautiful package.

Citroen SM. A virtually perfect car in every conceivable way, save the underpowered and hysterically fragile V6. A reliable motor with more power would basically turn it into a French Toronado.

RX-7 (FD). Because I know a guy who specializes in this, so I wouldn’t worry about it being done right. And I still absolutely love that car, but I’m not a rotary fan.

Civic type R. Also with RWD conversion. And an automatic trans, just for the haters.

LS7 in an ATS-V. It’ll fit and Caddy should do it, but won’t.

S14a. At 1200kg this car is already comically light. Throw in a LS over the heavier SR and it’s just over a ton in weight. Result: A mighty track day weapon. Also a V8 coupé to cruise about in is nice too.

Normally I lean Ford so how can I annoy people by dropping an LS in something and creating something cool....
Let’s cram one in the back of one of the worst Ferrari’s. It’ll make it reliable and a hell of a lot faster:

Miata/124. Why? because a Miata with an LSx underhood is much more of a modern day Shelby Cobra than the Viper could ever hope to be.

You know, if you used a Ferrari 400A you could even keep the stock TH400 transmission.

Nah, I’m just playing around! Probably an early Genesis Coupe since they are pretty cheap now and no one would be offended.

Clearly a Shelby Cobra (a real one of course) because I like to watch the world burn.

LH9 into a Crosley Hot Shot, because I have a death wish.
More seriously, but not too seriously, a whole LS4 drivetrain into a Laser 917, because Beatle engines are fo suckas.

Buick Roadmaster Wagon. It’s the only way to improve on its already perfect design.

Hyundai Veloster or Kia Soul. Both cool looking cars that deserve more go.

Considering how much heavier cars of that type weigh these days, yeah it is comical.

I want something small and different, but it looks like I’d be able to stay within the GM family:
I know there’s a Redline model that’s already pretty quick, but an LS would just make it redline-ier.
Its build quality is probably shit but I think it looks alright.

I want an Aston Martin DB4 GT lightweight with a LS9 in it and an Eagle Low Drag GT with a LS7 in it.

Cayman, Ferrari 360/430/488, Porsche 924/944/928, A mint RX7 FD Turbo. There is not a single front engine rear wheel drive that is not improved by some flavor of an LS motor.

El Camino, because simplify and add lightness.
And obviously not a 454

Very cool that someone has done it already, although I prefer the Sky’s styling to the Solstice.
Only issue with all of this is the price, which is pretty close to brand new Corvette/Boxster base prices.

Not much point in using an LH9, really. I can’t imagine it being that much cheaper than just getting a 6.2, I figure they probably sold more vehicles with the 6.2 than the LH9. And power-wise, the 6.2 will eat up the 5.3 any day.
With all that being said... the LH9 has served me well. And at the end of the day you’ve got an aluminum LS V8 under the hood, so meh.

Which cars of that type you mean? The BRZ which weighs about the same? Or the Miata which weighs... less? I don’t even consider my AW11s to be comically light and one of them is stripped. At that point in time, 2000 lb cars weren’t uncommon yet and the Turbo SW20 MR2 weighted less too, so 2800 is pretty fat for the time and averageish now.
![]() 07/20/2017 at 13:32 |

Well, hell let’s do that - nice and easy!
![]() 07/20/2017 at 13:43 |

Cheap wasn’t what I was looking for necessarily - I was figuring that it might have enough smaller profile pieces in the mid-size truck to make fitting a little easier. 6.2 *might* be slightly bigger, even though it fits.
![]() 07/20/2017 at 13:53 |
|
Could be... I’m not really sure. It could well be the case. After all they were willing to make the LS4, which wouldn’t have had a ton of production either.
I don’t know if they’d have done a ton of things to it, though... considering that some people have managed to get a 6.6 Duramax to fit in the Colorado engine bay.

When I say comically light I don’t mean super light like Caterham. Maybe I should of said surprisingly light because when I found out that the S14 weighs less than a Lotus Evora, yeah it was a surprise and then when you compare it to other 4 seater (on paper) RWD sports cars out now then it became comical.
Now would I include the MX5 or MR2 in that? No. Would I include the BRZ in that? Yes but here is the thing the design philosophy was heavily influenced by having low weight and yet despite that a lack of a turbo system is still weighs a bit more than a S14 but that is okay because safety has moved on and NVH levels are more relevant.
The cars that really bug me are things like the smaller BMWs or if I do allow 2 seaters things like the Nissan Z cars or heck even the F Type which is ludicrously heavy for what it is.

I pulled from the wikipedia article that the biggest differences on the LH9 were related to platform reconfig/form factor changes. It might have just been to make the assembly line easier, for all I know.
